The last time two male hip-hop artists held down the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 was 2009 with Flo’Rida and T.I. The last time a New Jersey artist held down the top spot was Lauryn Hill with “Doo-Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. The last time two New Jersey artists held down the top two spots? Never! (Okay, I don’t actually have that stat but it just went really well with what I had going on here. I don’t know if maybe Springsteen and Bon Jovi did it before, maybe Whitney…I don’t know. But just roll with me here.)
This week, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth‘s Furious 7 track “See You Again” ranks #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the fourth week in a row, while Fetty Wap‘s “Trap Queen” has climbed up from #3 to its highest spot yet at #2. (Obviously Wiz is not from Jersey, but Charlie Puth is. Rumson, what up!)
That’s not all that we have going on right now, either! East Brunswick teen Jax just scored a Top 3 spot on American Idol, the furthest any state resident has ever advanced. We find out Tuesday whether she makes it to the top 2, and Wednesday if she will be crowned Jersey‘s first-ever “American Idol!”
Being a music blogger for over a year now, I’ve done some pretty cool things in the industry so far. I’ve seen my favorite rappers – signed and unsigned – perform, and I’ve gotten to pick the brains of my favorite celebrities by doing interviews, and conference calls. I don’t take any moment for granted, so I was hella pumped when the head honcho of the lovely site, Marisa Mendez, asked me to be with her for a day BACKSTAGE at the New Jersey stop of Wiz Khalifa‘s Under The Influence of Music Tour this past Sunday!
If you haven’t noticed via all my social media channels, I’ve been along for the ride for a handful of Under The Influence of Music dates thus far, kicking off on July 24th in Scranton, PA. Originally set to feature Tyga as well (before he dropped out in the last hour,) the tour is comprised of 7 sets featuring DJ Drama, Mack Wilds, the HBK Gang (IAMSU! and Sage the Gemini), Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign, Jeezy and of course the ring leader, Wiz Khalifa. Even if you’re not fans of all of those acts, there’s something on this show for EVERYONE. To be honest, you don’t need to be a fan of ANY of them to enjoy this tour…although there’s probably something wrong with you if you don’t like a single person in that list of hitmakers.
On 2/12/14, we launched our newest project, TheAngieReview.com. With help from special guest Wiz Khalifa, we live streamed from the Hot 97 studios to celebrate the occasion – despite the insane snow storm outside!
2011 was a dope year. I worked as Joe Budden‘s assistant for a few months, so we had a lot of random adventures during that time – including the video of me being his hypeman in Miami over the summer for “OLS3″, LOL! There’s also my appearance in his music video for “Unison,” since it was taped at one of our pool parties over the summer. That’s below too.
I met DJ Pauly D randomly in NYC, went to a taping of Saturday Night Live and got to meet my fave Katy Perry, went to the premiere of Flex‘s MTV2 show, Tyrese dropped by Hot 97, hit a show in RI with French Montana and Wiz Khalifa, my homie DJ Ricky Ruckus flew me out to Cleveland to host a party, I helped put together 52 Fest – a festival to support injured Rutgers player Eric LeGrand and a bunch of other awesome stuff…but I’ll do separate posts for deeper dives into those!
Karen just started at Beats By Dre, so we drove down to Philly to gift some of the artists performing at the annual Roots Picnic with some custom headphones.
Shout out to Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa and Young Chris! Check out a video I took while we were on stage with Yelawolf below.
