As expected, DJ Khaled has earned his first number one album with Major Key. The project – which is his eighth studio effort – moved 95k units this week, knocking Drake out of the top spot.
Also debuting this week is Fantasia, whose new album The Definition Of… moved nearly 32k units, coming in at number 6. Congrats!

Not only has DJ Khaled‘s latest album, Major Key, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the hitmaker has received a special shout out from one of hip-hop’s legends – Ms. Lauryn Hill.
Since the albums release on July 29, there’s been much buzz around one particular track, “Nas Album Done.” Featuring the Queens-MC himself and sampled by the Fugee‘s “Fu-Gee-La”, Nas confirmed his 12th studio album was complete.
After hearing the final product, Ms. Hill took to her Apple Connect page to write heartfelt note to Khaled, thanking him for his acknowledgement and thanking Nas for “blessing up the chune.”
DJ Khaled‘s hugely anticipated latest album, Major Key, is available for purchase now on Apple Music!
His 9th studio album, this is Khaled‘s best work by far. Major Key is a carefully curated body of work that only shows off why Khaled is able to have such longevity in the music industry, including his ability to constantly market and reinvent himself. Features on the exclusive album are nabbed by Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nas, Jeezy, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Future, Gucci Mane, J. Cole, Big Sean, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Rick Ross, Bryson Tiller, August Alsina, and many more. As you can see, even though times have changed since two turntables and a mic, DJs remain permanent elements of hip-hop artists’ success.
Simply put, who else do you know that can take a risk by putting a new artist under their wing (Kodak Black), or bring pop singer Meghan Trainor out on a track featuring Wiz Khalifa and Wale?! DJs have lost the art of truly breaking records and pushing the boundaries of music lines, but never Khaled.
DJ Khaled is gearing up to release his ninth studio album Major Key, and revealed the cover on Kimmel yesterday. The photo was shot by Jonathan Mannion.
DJ Khaled‘s celebrity is bigger than it has ever been, and I’m interested to see how that will have an impact on his forthcoming album, Major Key. He’s always had huge records with huge artists on them, but I think this one will be next level!
That being said, it’s no surprise that he’s put together two of the biggest artists in the game for his next single “I Got The Keys” – Jay Z and Future. The guys shot the video for it this week in NYC while everyone was in town for Summer Jam, and the cameos are as star-studded as the guys on the song!
Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz, T.I., Rick Ross, Fabolous, A$AP Ferg, Bryson Tiller and Yo Gotti were all on set as well, and you can check out the pics below!
DJ Khaled has seen a new level of success in the last 6 months than he has in his entire career, all thanks to Snapchat. With a Beats1 radio show under his belt now and boasting over 6 million followers on the social network, Khaled has even more big things in the works.
Khaled has announced that his We The Best label has inked a deal under L.A. Reid at Epic Records, and his ninth album, Major Key, will be arriving soon. And on that album, there will be a track featuring none other than Jay Z and Future.
Producer Southside is behind the beats on that one, and revealed the news during an interview with DJ Whoo Kid recently. He says the song is untitled as of yet, and is co-produced by Jake One and G-Coup. Khaled confirmed the news to Miss Info.
Congrats on all of the major moves! Check out what Khaled had to say about the Epic partnership below.
