Shout to Mistah F.A.B. and The Lonely Island for coming up to Hot 97 this month! Thank you to Skinny Pop for the care package, Hood Goodie for the dope clothes, all the companies that sent me dad hats and the podcast fan who sent a Free TC plaque – so dope!
Also got to see my Bay boys Daghe and Kool John this month, and celebrate Nessa’s birthday with my entire Hot 97 fam!

People send me their music links all day long on social media and in my email, but with a schedule like mine, it’s damn near impossible to ever sit there and listen to it…not to mention the fact that I really don’t care to. Being that I have no interest in being a manager or a publicist, I’m not really scouting for new talent like, ever.
However, there are times when I stumble across new things that I love. Working in music, I meet tons of artists all of the time – some already established, some working their way up. Of the latter, it’s more than just the music that tends to pique my interest, as I pay attention to their social media interaction, their personality, their style, the team they’ve put in place (because NO one can do this on their own,) and their overall brand. There are tons of songs I come across from upcoming artists that I do enjoy, but if the only thing they have going on for themselves is a good song or two, I’m not ready to commit as a “fan” just yet.
That being said, there are a handful of young, hungry artists I’ve met this year, and 7 in particular truly stood out to me. I love putting people on to new music, especially stuff that I am passionate about. Though I’m not an A&R, I do recognize the fact that I’m in a position to shed light on things, and I definitely need people to be checking for these guys! In NO order (though I do go from west to east,) check out our list below of who to watch for in 2015. Remember who told you!

Being a music blogger for over a year now, I’ve done some pretty cool things in the industry so far. I’ve seen my favorite rappers – signed and unsigned – perform, and I’ve gotten to pick the brains of my favorite celebrities by doing interviews, and conference calls. I don’t take any moment for granted, so I was hella pumped when the head honcho of the lovely site, Marisa Mendez, asked me to be with her for a day BACKSTAGE at the New Jersey stop of Wiz Khalifa‘s Under The Influence of Music Tour this past Sunday!
Off Kool John’s latest release, $hmop City, he links up with his HBK brother P-Lo for the visual to “B*tch I Look Good.” Of course – there’s no shortage of Bernie’ing and dope graphics, as expected from the Heartbreak Gang! Get into the Adrian Per-directed video below!

On Wednesday afternoon, the Bay invaded NYC as IAMSU! stopped by Hot 97 with Kool John and P-Lo to chop it up with Cipha Sounds. The HBK guys were on an off day from the “Under The Influence” tour that they’re currently on, a 22-city nationwide trek alongside fellow HBK member Sage The Gemini, as well as Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Mack Wilds, Rich Homie Quan and Jeezy.
After Suzy 6speed discussed life on the road and adjusting to his ever-growing success, P-Lo and Kool John chimed in when the topic of ladies came up, particularly those that they come across on tour. Ever the enlightened one, Kool Daddy dropped a dime for the listeners and shed some light on the “new age groupie.” Upon further review, I think I fall into this category. (Joking obviously but my photos certainly reflect that, LMAO!)

Lo‘s listening session, Terrence J and Trey Songz came by Hot 97, hit the club with Ty Dolla $ign in NYC, T.I.‘s movie premiere in NYC, met Ice Cube at Kimmel in LA, hit Kehlani‘s “FWU” shoot in LA, hit the Bay for KMEL‘s Summer Jam with Tinashe and the HBK guys and went with YG to his show in the Bay while I was there.
