There are three big debuts in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week. Macklemore is the highest up, with his new album GEMINI coming in at number two with 51k. Following the Seattle native is Kevin Gates with the official debut of By Any Means 2. The album hit the Billboard 200 last week, but it was at number 100 as it was only out for one day of the tracking week. Now with a full 7 days, the album comes in at number 4 with 40k.
Right behind Gates is Jhene Aiko, with her new project Trip coming in at number 5 with 37k. Shout out to Mike Zombie on the “Overstimulated” track!
Looking ahead to next week, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie‘s debut album, The Bigger Artist, is looking at 50-55k. This should put him in the top 10, and possibly even in the top 5! In the meantime, check out this week’s top 10 below.
Sevyn Streeter was tapped to sing the National Anthem at tonight’s 76ers home opener vs. the Oklahoma Thunder. Unfortunately, she never made it to the stage.
According to a video Sevyn posted from backstage, the organization decided to ax her performance because of her “We Matter” jersey. How pathetic. The 76ers soon released a statement, saying:
“We use our games to bring people together, to build trust and to strengthen our communities. As we move from symbolic gestures to action, we will continue to leverage our platform to positively impact our community.”
I’m so disappointed! Check out what Sevyn had to say below, as well as today’s biggest stories.
Just one day after dropping the song, the people behind the Suicide Squad film release the visual for the soundtrack’s lead single, “Sucker For Pain.” The track has a star-studded lineup, combining my two faves Lil Wayne and Ty Dolla $ign, as well as Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors.
Check out the video below, as well as PND‘s “Come & See Me” starring Kylie Jenner (and a makeout scene, of course,) 50 Cent and Chris Brown‘s “No Romeo No Juliet” and much more.
Earlier this week, an interview from Hot 107.9‘s Birthday Bash concert in ATL from the weekend started going viral. The subject, Kevin Gates, was less than interested in speaking with radio personality (and former Love & Hip-Hop star) Traci Steele, and it made for one of the most awkward moments ever! He even brushed her off when she touched his side to greet him!
As the video gained more traction on the web, people began speaking out in support of Traci, commending her for remaining so professional in such a hostile environment, and calling Kevin disrespectful for acting in such a way. Seeing the comments, Kevin decided to explain his side – sort of – and managed to still be as equally as disrespectful as before. Traci, however, kept it classy once again in her response. Check out what they both said below. (And by the way, Kevin‘s response is BS because there are PLENTY of photos of his “married” and “holy” ass touching women.)
UPDATE: He’s responded once again, basically calling Traci a demon. Man, if this guy doesn’t get outta here…!
There’s plenty of new music to bump at your Memorial Day barbecues today!
Belly, a rapper out of The Weeknd‘s XO crew, dropped his first full-length retail project. Another Day In Paradise features Weeknd of course, as well as Lil Wayne, Juicy J, Travi$ Scott, Kehlani, Waka Flocka and more.
Listen below, as well as a new mixtape from Curren$y (he’s been dropping one every month in 2016!), a new EP from Kevin Gates and a joint project from Birdman and his Cash Money signee, Jacquees.
Both Kevin Gates and Boosie Badazz are from Baton Rouge, but they don’t quite have the comradery that other artists from the same city tend to have. The pair have a history, as the man Boosie was accused (and later acquitted of) murdering in 2009 was an affiliate of Gates.
However, they’ve managed to keep it cordial, as they have a mutual friend behind bars that they each often name-check in songs, Lee Lucas. I’m guessing he holds some weight out here, if that’s enough to keep them at bay.
Anyway, the Atlantic labelmates’ tension came to a head over the weekend, when they both were tapped to perform at the same club. Their entourages ended up getting in quite the brawl, with Gates‘ DJ reportedly being punched in the eye. Check out the footage below.
Last summer, Kevin Gates found himself in hot water after he’d kicked a female fan in the front row who was grabbing on him while he was performing at a show.
The woman sued him over the incident, and now the rapper has officially filed his response. In his documents, Gates says he was acting in self-defense and should be pardoned under Florida‘s “Stand Your Ground Law.” He explains that the victim, Miranda Dixon, tried to grab him twice, and since he warned her after her first attempt, he was allowed to fight back after her second.
Gates says Dixon managed to grab his shorts the second time, and he thought she was trying to pull him offstage, so he used necessary force to defend himself and prevent further harm. He is asking the judge to throw out the case. They have yet to rule.
