There are three big debuts in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week. Macklemore is the highest up, with his new album GEMINI coming in at number two with 51k. Following the Seattle native is Kevin Gates with the official debut of By Any Means 2. The album hit the Billboard 200 last week, but it was at number 100 as it was only out for one day of the tracking week. Now with a full 7 days, the album comes in at number 4 with 40k.
Right behind Gates is Jhene Aiko, with her new project Trip coming in at number 5 with 37k. Shout out to Mike Zombie on the “Overstimulated” track!
Looking ahead to next week, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie‘s debut album, The Bigger Artist, is looking at 50-55k. This should put him in the top 10, and possibly even in the top 5! In the meantime, check out this week’s top 10 below.
Thanks to the release of his new single “Rockstar” with 21 Savage, Post Malone‘s 2016 album Stoney has popped back into the top 10 on the Billboard 200. It’s never really strayed too far, however, as last week it was nearby at number 17. The track is actually not on Stoney, however, and will likely live on a new project.
Elsewhere on the chart, the debut self-titled album from Prophets of Rage (Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk) landed at number 16 on the chart, which is really solid! Kevin Gates‘ By Any Means 2 didn’t fare nearly as well, however.
The projected debuted at number 100 with only 7k in sales, which is a HUGE change from his number 2 debut in 2016 with Islah. However, it could be the fact that it was released a day early, which likely filtered it into the previous sales week. In other words, the 7k number may only be ONE day worth of sales, not a full week, and next week we could see the real first week sales.
Looking ahead to next week, Jhene Aiko‘s surprise album Trip is expected to sell around 28-32k units. Surprisingly low, no? We’ll see the final tally next week, but in the meantime, check out this week’s top 10 below!
Last week, Jhene Aiko filed for divorce from producer Dot Da Genius, confirming the rumors that had been circulating about their split. There are many other rumors as well, including the most prevalent – that Jhene had cheated on him with Big Sean, who she appears to be dating now.
Over the weekend, Jhene responded to the rampant comments about her alleged infidelity, denying any cheating. She also insinuated that she’d left the relationship long ago because of things that Dot had done, noting that they married in Vegas, he didn’t want to live with her, he was way too friendly with his ex and the biggest bombshell:
Looks like those rumors of Jhene Aiko being married to producer Dot Da Genius were true, though the nuptials apparently happened a little later than when the rumors first popped up in the fall of 2014.
On Saturday night, YG took to OVO Sound Radio to premiere the lead single off his forthcoming sophomore effort, Still Krazy. “Why You Always Hatin'” finds the Compton rapper teaming with Drake once again, and this time, they’re joined by Oakland newcomer Kamaiyah, who takes on hook duties. Still Krazy is set to release next month.
Also premiered on last night’s OVO Sound episode was the remix to Drake‘s Views cut, “Hype,” featuring none other than his Young Money boss, Lil Wayne. Interesting shout out to Christina Milian, Tune…
