Our Jersey guy can do no wrong! Fetty Wap has long shed his “one hit wonder” predictions, and now has not one, not two, not three…but FOUR songs in the top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot Rap Songs chart.
His longest-running hit is of course “Trap Queen,” which still sits comfortably at number 2. It’s followed by the Monty-assisted “My Way” at number 3, the Remy Boyz-assisted “679” at number 5, and is now joined by “Again,” entering the chart for its first week at number 8.
Fetty Wap, August Alsina and the Jersey fam Tsu Surf dropped by Hot 97, I randomly met Taye Diggs at a bar and my good friends over at Mass Appeal invited me to join them at their first annual BBQ with Pusha T, Dave East, Chevy Woods, Audra The Rapper, my JERSEY fam Dougie F. and more!
Fetty Wap stopped by The Angie Martinez Show for his first time, and this may be one of my favorite interviews of his yet! Angie got the New Jersey native to open up, and he happily shared some funny stories about his eye, his hobbies and more.
Get a run-down of the 7 new things we learned about Fetty Wap below, plus the full interview.
Yesterday marked the 23rd annual Summer Jam concert from Hot 97, and another epic night for the record books! I was frazzled for a majority of the show because I signed up to work, and was assigned to handle all things Fetty Wap and Ty Dolla $ign…which sounded fun in theory, but DAMN it was a lot of work! Needless to say, I missed about 90% of things that happened – and that includes all that drama outside. My mother actually was texting me in a panic making sure I was okay, and I had to ask her what she was talking about because we were calmly sitting around sharing “deez nuts” jokes backstage at the time. LOL! It’s a shame a few bad apples attempted to spoil the whole bunch, but they ultimately didn’t – as the show went on inside without incident, and for the tens of thousands that did get in, it was an amazing time!
SO much went on behind-the-scenes and on the stage, so I’ll start from the beginning at the Festival Stage.
Just before he takes the stage for his first-ever Summer Jam performance on Sunday (which is also his 24th birthday, by the way), Fetty Wap stopped by Hot 97 to chat with Ebro In The Morning this week.
During the interview, Fetty spoke on his newfound fame, the house he just bought , getting “fake” dreads and the flack he caught for it, who really is his “Trap Queen” and more.
On the faux dreads:
The last time two male hip-hop artists held down the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 was 2009 with Flo’Rida and T.I. The last time a New Jersey artist held down the top spot was Lauryn Hill with “Doo-Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. The last time two New Jersey artists held down the top two spots? Never! (Okay, I don’t actually have that stat but it just went really well with what I had going on here. I don’t know if maybe Springsteen and Bon Jovi did it before, maybe Whitney…I don’t know. But just roll with me here.)
This week, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth‘s Furious 7 track “See You Again” ranks #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the fourth week in a row, while Fetty Wap‘s “Trap Queen” has climbed up from #3 to its highest spot yet at #2. (Obviously Wiz is not from Jersey, but Charlie Puth is. Rumson, what up!)
That’s not all that we have going on right now, either! East Brunswick teen Jax just scored a Top 3 spot on American Idol, the furthest any state resident has ever advanced. We find out Tuesday whether she makes it to the top 2, and Wednesday if she will be crowned Jersey‘s first-ever “American Idol!”
Fetty Wap made his television debut earlier this week when stopping by REVOLT TV to perform his top 10 Billboard single, “Trap Queen.”
Speaking on the style he’s dubbed “Trap&B” to REVOLT host DJ Damage, Fetty also humbly discussed his newfound success, recalls meeting Kanye for the first time, elaborated on his 2015 plans and more.
