As expected, JAY-Z‘s 4:44 debuted at number one the Billboard 200, after it was released on all streaming platforms following its exclusive one week TIDAL release. (The TIDAL release did not count toward Billboard.) The album sold 174k units, and makes for Hov‘s 14th number one! This now makes him the record holder for solo artist with the most number one albums in the history of Billboard!
Had Hov not dropped, 21 Savage‘s Issa Album would have debuted at number one. Instead, it comes in at number two with a super solid 77k! Issa hit! Outside of the top 10, Sevyn Streeter‘s new album Girl Disrupted had an extremely dismal debut at number 92. Sheesh.
Looking ahead to next week, French Montana‘s Jungle Rules is on pace to sell around 45-50k, which should give him a top 5 debut. In the meantime, check out this week’s top 10 below!
DJ Khaled‘s Grateful hit number one again for its second week on the Billboard 200, making it the first album to spend more than one week in the top spot in two months! In the week ending July 6, Grateful sold another 70k units.
Looking ahead to next week, JAY-Z and 21 Savage will make their chart debuts with 4:44 and Issa Album, respectively. Though 4:44 was released the week prior, it was a TIDAL exclusive, which doesn’t count toward the Billboard charts. Now that it has been released to all streaming services and stores, it’s looking at a number one debut next week with around 250-275k. By RIAA‘s standards, it’s already considered platinum through the TIDAL streams in week one.
As for 21, his debut, Issa Album, is on pace to sell around 50-60k, which should put him in the top 3. Issa hit!
In the meantime, check out this week’s top 10 below.
This 21 Savage and Tyga beef was the talk of the weekend. Here’s what happened if you’re a bit lost.
21 Savage decided that he wanted to get at Kylie Jenner, and after making a post about her on social media, he then doubled up when asked by TMZ cameras and said he’d “tear that ass up.” Of course, Tyga didn’t like another man – especially a rapper – coming for his woman, so he made a diss track, which was previewed by Kylie on Snapchat over the weekend.
On the track, Tyga raps over 21‘s “No Heart” beat with bars like, “Why you got one car in a 12-car garage? Sucking dick for a Ferrari,” likely referring to the whip that Drake got 21 for his birthday recently.
21 followed this up with a series of videos, threatening to kill Tyga and all that fun stuff. He’s since deleted them all, however, and now claims those videos were old and this whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Kylie has been sticking by her man’s side, calling 21 a “bitch” on IG, but Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj seem to be siding with 21. Welp!
Check out all of the posts below, along with the rest of the weekend’s biggest stories.
