The biggest story this weekend was by far Mariah Carey‘s NYE flub. As you know, the songstress performed at Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve in Times Square, and had quite the lip-syncing malfunction. She awkwardly got through the first song, “Auld Lang Syne,” but then “Emotion” played with no vocals, and she was unable to lip-sync to anything so she walked around on stage saying that she “can’t hear” and that they “didn’t have a check for this song, so we’ll just say it went to number one… I’m going to say let the audience sing.”
Afterward, her team called out ABC for it, saying that they knew her ear piece wasn’t working but had promised it would be fine for the performance. They also say the teleprompter with the lyrics wasn’t on, and at one point, ABC execs even changed the battery pack for her ear piece saying that’s probably why she can’t hear. In other words, this is all their fault and they knew it. Even in the pre-interview with Ryan Seacrest, you can hear Mimi tell him that she can barely hear him.
Mariah‘s team say that after the performance, people from Dick Clark Productions were “screaming” about the malfunction, with one production person saying, “I don’t care that her ears didn’t work. She could’ve just winged it.” This, they say, is further proof that it wasn’t Mariah‘s fault. Dick Clark Productions says Mariah‘s claim of sabotage is defamatory, but her team says she did Dick Clark Productions a favor after they begged for her to sing, and she did it for free.
Meanwhile, a man named Mike McKnight, who is reportedly Mariah‘s sound engineer, took to Facebook revealing that ABC wouldn’t let Mariah bring her own sound people. I don’t know, I’m with Mimi on this one. I know how hard it gets to hear ANYTHING on stage, and you can’t sing if you can’t hear the music – especially at her pitch. What do you think? J. Cole will be dropping a brand new album, 4 Your Eyez Only, in exactly one week on Friday, December 9. The pre-order has gone live, revealing there will be 10 tracks on the album. The release date is the exact same day as Cole released his double platinum effort, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, two years ago – so clearly he enjoys December 9!
Shortly after the announcement, Cole released a 40-minute documentary on TIDAL called Eyez, and it included a visual for one of the album’s songs, “False Prophets.” The lyrics are rather interesting, as Cole appears to be not only gunning for Kanye West, but taking some jabs at his homie Wale as well!
Check out the lyrics and the documentary below, along with the rest of today’s biggest stories!

Kanye West had another rant on Saturday night in Sacramento, this time calling out Jay Z for not calling him and Beyoncé for requesting to win Album of the Year to show up at the BET Awards. He also only performed 3 songs before cutting the show short, though he did bring Kid Cudi out for a nice moment on stage.
This quickly prompted the #KanyeIsOverParty trending topic, and later, the cancellation of his Sunday night show in LA. Thankfully, Ticketmaster is offering refunds for both shows.
Ye has not yet responded, but instead went on Instagram and posted over 50 random fashion photos. Read the full rant here, and check out Snoop Dogg and Talib Kweli‘s reactions below. Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump is now loving Ye and co-signing him. SMH.
TIP has been one of hip hop’s most vocal advocates for Black Lives Matter and the fight against racism and police brutality. His latest EP Us or Else, served as a soundtrack to the protests held around the country, while the artist encouraged the country to get out and vote on November 8.
In the wake of Trump‘s election on Wednesday, thousands of protesters took to the streets of New York City, including TIP. In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, he said that he happened to be recording at a studio not far from where protestors began gathering and decided to walk over.
He mentioned a few people recognized him and rather than fanning out, they thanked him for joining the cause. While TIP realizes that the damage of the election has been done, it’s still important to set an example.

Machine Gun Kelly was in NYC for a sold-out show on his Alpha Omega tour, so he stopped by Ebro In The Morning to discuss his new song, “Bad Things.” The track is his first-ever Top 40 record (“Wild Boy” only hit #89 believe it or not!,) and it features Fifth Harmony‘s Camila Cabello.
During the chat with Rosenberg and myself, MGK discussed how LeBron James breathed life into Cleveland, why he turned down a movie role over the N-word, being welcomed by the Zoo Gang while filming a video in Paterson and more!
Tune into the interview below. “Bad Things” is available now on iTunes.
